Simulathe

2022

SimuLathe is a subproject of ViRSE - Virtual Reality for Student Education. Our goal was to create a mechanical lathe simulation for mechanical engineering students, providing them with an engaging onboarding experience to prepare them for their first real-life interaction with a lathe.

To achieve this, I used the ViRSE framework in Unity, designed the interactions, and built the entire ViRSE environment by creating a 3D model of the lathe and the interaction flow. Working closely with workshop technicians, I gained an understanding of the challenges students face and recorded the technician working on the machine to capture valuable insights that informed our design decisions.
